Bariatric surgery, also known as obesity or weight loss surgery, is one recommended approach to losing excess weight that might be negatively impacting your health.
Bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery requires meticulous procedures done on your digestive system, either through making your stomach smaller, technically referred to as a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, or through removing a part of your stomach, technically known as a Gastric Sleeve Surgery.
Bariatric surgery warrants a lower risk to your heart’s condition, your blood pressure, and your liver as well as a lower chance of developing sleep apnea.
When to Consider Bariatric Surgery?
If you are struggling with excess weight, then you might qualify for bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is usually administered on individuals who have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or more and/or those whose excess weight is impeding their day-to-day life and is impacting their health.
At Noor Al Mamzar Medical Center, we provide all options of bariatric & liposuction surgeries for a very affordable price to everyone.

Gastric sleeve surgery reduces the size of the stomach while preserving digestive function. This allows for consuming all foods in small quantities. The surgery does not affect the passage of the small intestines, thus ensuring prevention of dumping syndrome and intestinal obstruction. It also reduces the chances of anemia, osteoporosis, protein deficiency, and vitamin deficiency.
The surgery is performed laparoscopically under general anesthesia, with five small surgical incisions for quick recovery and minimal scarring. It takes from one to one and a half hours. Two-thirds of the stomach is removed and reshaped into a sleeve, aiding in the sensation of fullness. Afterward, small amounts of food are consumed to maintain proper nutrition, and the procedure typically requires a hospital stay of about two nights post-surgery.
How much weight can be lost after gastric sleeve surgery?
Most patients lose between 50 to 80% of their excess weight within the first 12 months after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery.
Gastric bypass surgery is a surgical procedure used to treat obesity, aiming to assist patients in losing excess weight and improving health problems associated with obesity. This is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach and bypassing a portion of the small intestine, which leads to decreased appetite and control over the amount of food consumed.
Typically, gastric bypass surgery can help in losing between 60% to 70% of excess weight if the patient adopts a healthy lifestyle that includes changes in diet and regular exercise. Additionally, this procedure works to improve intestinal hormones, contributing to reducing appetite and increasing satiety.
Among the other advantages of gastric bypass surgery are reducing the amount of food consumed and positive changes in intestinal hormones. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes from one to two hours. It is carried out through several steps, including separating the upper part of the stomach and shaping it into a small pouch, then connecting it to the lower part of the small intestine. This procedure prevents the passage of food through the lower part of the stomach and small intestine.
Liposuction, also known as fat removal surgery or body contouring, is a cosmetic procedure that involves removing excess or stubborn fat that does not disappear with diet and exercise from specific areas of the body to achieve a more defined and harmonious appearance.
Both men and women can undergo liposuction surgery on various parts of the body, including the following areas:
